The Oceana County Airport was developed in 1972 on 90 acres of property in Shelby Township. The original runway was 2,000' long and was extended to 3,500' in 1999 with the assistance of a grant from the Michigan Bureau of Aeronautics in order to accomodate larger aircraft.
